Ecological aspect
Environmentally, aluminium is a lot friendlier compared to other materials. Wood has been commonly used in civil construction of buildings. Forest is the only source of wood, but the continuous deforestation activities reduce the total forest area of a country. The total area covered by forest has not increased despite the massive efforts of forestation and conservation efforts.
Therefore alternative construction materials have to replace traditional ones. Aluminium doors and windows are the perfect alternative for wooden doors and windows in modern construction. The use of aluminium for doors and windows is a sensible contribution towards the conservation of the existing forests of Nepal.
Cost effective and Maintenance free
Strong and versatile, aluminium is one of the easiest materials to keep in good condition. When compared at equal levels of quality of material and work, it is cheaper than wood when used for doors and windows.
Resistance to corrosion
Aluminium is resistant to corrosion. Unlike other metals it is used because of this property. It is not affected by atmosphere conditions, or the onslaught of weather. This corrosion resistance property is further improved by surface treatment such as powder coating an anodising.
Lightness Aluminium has a low specific gravity making it a light metal. Its weight is 1/3rd that of steel or copper.
Strength
The lightness, coupled with good strength, gives aluminium extrusion the added advantage of a high strength to weight ratio, even higher than steel. It is a major required property and aluminium fully meets the requirement. In each application the specific resistance of each type of profile determine the choice of sections, by expert aluminium fitters, for the best results.
Aluminium has a low specific gravity making it a light metal. Its weight is one third that of steel or copper. Technically versatile
The easy production of a great variety of shapes of the extrusions provides interlocking sections with all the necessary in-built characteristics like groves, screw retainers and so on, for all doors, windows, partitions etc.
Fast response from design to manufacture As aluminium is versatile and available in sections ready to manufacture, fabrication is swift.
Maintenance free
Thanks to the above-mentioned properties, properly fabricated, assembled and fitted aluminium frames practically don’t require any maintenance for A long periods of time. The slight extra cost at the time of construction for quality product, is fast recovered in the maintenance-free period that follows the occupancy of the buildings. Aesthetics
Apart from all these properties, its regular lines, its smooth and varied colour finish, gives aluminium an elegant appearance, which is the reason for its popularity among builders. The quality of the powder coating guaranties an impeccable colour finish. In Nepal, wood is the primarily choice for doors, windows and frames in building construction, but quality wood is costly and is fast disappearing. Aluminium extrusion can be a better substitute. Many high-class hospitals, commercial centers, hotels, schools, as well as private residences have already been fitted with aluminium doors and windows. These buildings are considered among the best and most elegant constructions in Kathmandu valley. Easy to operate/Comfortable
